Do you ever wonder how the modern world would look like if people would be truly free to express their opinions about sex and that would not be a tabu subject? I thought about it once.
So let's see, what if this conversation would be nothing but just a normal lunch conversation:
"- So I was thinking... how about you and I having sex this evening?
"- Oh... That's flattering but I am really not interested, sorry.
or
"- You know there is this thing I wanted to bring up.
"- ...
"- I was thinking that maybe tonight you would like to come over my place and have sex?
"- Oh, I am really glad you brought this up, I was going to say the same thing! What time shall we meet?
"- I know, let's first go to the cinema and see this great new movie, so we could meet at about 7?
or (a work coleague)
"I'm throwing a sex party tonight and you're all invited. Significant others are welcome, of course."
These would be perfectly ok, I guess. If I don't wanna go to that party I don't go, but at least I know what's it about.
And isn't this exactly what being adult is supposed to mean? Being able to say yes or no? I know you're going to say this is not as simple as that, sex is more complicated. Like women can't just say no because they don't want to hurt a man's feelings...
Well if they can't say no because they care more about "that man's feelings" than their own feelings and would even accept having sex with someone they don't want to because they wouldn't wanna risk hurting their feelings... ?!?! I would say that's a very different issue and needs to be addressed immediately, most likely through proper education. So on...
And what would become of the world if sex would not be as tabu? Well... one thing is for sure: people would not be fascinated about the looks of a blond that can't sing but promises to show more of her breasts with each show she has. Like Ms. Spears for example. And they would actually care more about the voice of a singer rather than the looks. Why? Simply because a sexually satisfied crowd cannot be as easily manipulated by "badly singing" blond breasts.
Is this independence desirable? No, of course not. Independent people cannot be made to buy things they don't need just because it gets them closer to the object of their adulation: the blond breasts, they can't sing of course, but are very well illustrated on the perfume box! You don't buy perfume, you don't need it, you buy the breasts, that is what you need :-)
Oh well, we are all slaves of our desires and sex is meant to be tabu so there is at least one desire marketing departments can take advantage of. And it all works really well.
So have fun now with this Google tech talk about: "sex on the internet, the realities of porn, sexual privacy" by Violet Blue... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1y9ysYNCKE

The problem with sex is that it's not a tabu created by salesman, but by religion from ancient times. The salesmen only use this as a means to sell the products - unfortunately we're victims of the sex tabu that is deeply bound in the collective minds. We're victims of the mistakes of the forefathers and their forefathers.
We would have a much more relaxed society, indeed... But it's kinda hard to make that change now
Maybe religion started it, but it is not religion that is maintaining this state of fact today. It's business and governments lobbied by businesses.
On one hand they show you ads with very explicit sexual meanings and on the other they make sure it is forbidden for others to do so, or even for you to talk about it and about what the ad implies.
And this schizophrenic influence (you are directly shown something, but you are forbid to talk about it) pays well and produces an imbalance in the individual... and imbalanced people buy (and do) stuff for no good reasons.
And do you remember what happened to the .xxx domain?
Religion is still the main business pushing the sexual tabu forward.
The others, au contraire. Governments are lead by people that are religiously driven because religion is a mean to obtain votes. The business pushes the other way - because having such a strong tabu gave them the oportunity to sell more using suggestions and mind control techniques. They will indeed mind the lack of sexual openness because that would cut their strings, true. But then again, it's just a set of strings, the business will always adapt to whatever would sell better :)
And there always be strings.
Well if the religion reason may be a reason in the US... I doubt that is the issue in Europe.
And I think it is not the base of the issue in the US as well. When are people most affected by this? At teenage time right? Teenagers are not very religious or very into that... Some are educated to be religious, but I think not the majority.
However they scream and faint at the sight of miss Spears and they buy her albums, and the people behind miss Spears know that. Miss Spears was just another innocent teenager chose by people who knew how to use her... to make tons of money. Nothing more. No religion involved.
Flynt said that the church helped the most at spreading Playboy.
I think this happens now still.
And you might say that this happens in the US, but Europe has its countries too - Romania, which we both know, or Poland... Relgion still plays a huge role in this movie. Smaller each day, but significant nevertheless
I'm not saying I disagree with you. Only that religion is a huge player here, and will always be
Well then I guess what I am saying is that the latest moves against "freedom of sex talk and porn" are not sponsored by the morale of a church, but rather by the money of business.
So I think we should shift our attention to the people that want to control individual freedoms and have the means to achieve that.
Sorry for the belated comment (just found this post now). I think you might find the following (which I stole from another forum) interesting:
Man : Hello there. I would like to take you home, fuck you three ways to Sunday, fall asleep and wake up with you NOT there and no worries about the future. I would also like to repeat this process with your hot friend there and possibly your sister.
Woman : Hello. I want you to respect my emotions, my opinions and listen to what I say. I want to talk endlessly about things you don't care about such as fashion, gossip and shoes. I would also like to drag you along to every shit-eating event I can think of such as dinner at my boring hateful parents house, social gatherings involving people who suck and artsy events. Furthermore I would like you to hand your balls over...right now. Yes you wont need them. You can now no longer look at other women, comment on how hot they look, nor watch porn. You may as well put your friends on notice that they are soon to go as well. Now, be a good boy and fetch my handbag.
This should give some hints as to why we can't just "talk" to each other and tell each other what we really want.
:-D
Well you can still say it, but you don't have to accept the offer (any of the two). I think that's my point.
The thing is that today, you can't say anything close to that, not even the joke you just sent me... "everything you say or do can be used against you as sexual harassment".
